Administrative Assistant

We are seeking an Administrative Assistant to join Burkett & Co.’s talented team. The successful candidate will provide high level administrative support to all members of our team. This is a full time position reporting directly to the Office Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare materials for client meetings
• Assist with setting up client meetings, debriefs and follow ups
• Maintain client database, electronic, and paper files
• Provide exceptional customer service to our existing and new clients both on the phone and by email/mail correspondence
• General office tidiness, prep boardrooms for meetings, co-ordinate boardroom availability
• Co-ordinate travel arrangements, business and personal for management, as required
• Mail opening and sorting, mail services for clients, prepare packages and coordinate with courier & mail service
• Monitor and maintain office supply inventory
• Oversee maintenance of office equipment (fax, copier, scanners etc.), office furniture and lights, communicate with janitorial staff
• Maintain and update policy and procedure manuals and standard letters to CRA
• Prepare cheques for office payables, collecting receivables, processing credit card payments and bank deposits
• Perform work related errands (i.e.: post office and bank runs) and other tasks, as requested by your supervisor

Qualifications:
• Prior experience in an administrative support role, experience working in an accounting office an asset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, prior client-facing experience
• Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, as well as independently
• Handle varied roles and responsibilities and meets deadlines
• A high regard for accuracy and attention to detail in fast-paced, high pressure environment
• Strong work ethic and motivation
• Ability to troubleshoot basic computer/technical issues

Co-op CPA Student

We are seeking a co-op student to work closely with Burkett & Co.’s talented team for a four-month term from January to April 2020. This opportunity will provide the student with interesting and relevant work experience toward the pursuit of a professional accounting designation. The student will have an opportunity to apply their accounting and tax knowledge to a wide range of corporate clients as well as personal clients that face a variety of complex tax issues. Burkett & Co. has employed a co-op student for the past several years and strives to ensure this term position is a mutually beneficial experience. The successful candidate will work with all members of our team and actively participate in team meetings. Strong candidates in this position are able to be considered for a full-time articling position in the future.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assistance with personal tax season administration
• Preparation of Notice to Reader engagement working papers
• Preparation of corporate and individual income tax returns
• Detailed analysis of revenue, expense and investment transactions
• Other types of special engagements as necessary

Qualifications:
• Enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year accounting program with a desire to pursue their CPA designation
• Strong attention to detail and solid analytical skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Willingness to work extended hours during March and April

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to apply their accounting and tax knowledge to a wide range of corporate clients as well as personal and trust clients that face a variety of complex tax issues. Burkett & Co. has successfully employed articling students for the past several years and strives to ensure this position is a mutually beneficial experience. The successful candidate will work with all members of our team and actively participate in team meetings.
