Senior Accountant

We are seeking a Senior Account to join our Victoria-based team. This is a client-facing position that requires experience communicating financial information in a public practice setting.

Job Description

Responsibilities of the position will include:
• Identify and implement tax planning strategies
• Preparation and/or review of personal, corporate and trust tax returns
• Manage tax compliance services delivery for the office to ensure timely and accurate tax filings
• Preparation and/or review of Review engagements and Notice to Reader engagements
• Other types of special engagements, as necessary

Working at Burkett & Co. is rewarding but fast-paced, we serve clients with justifiably high expectations of our personnel. A high regard for accuracy and attention to detail is essential. Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
• CPA designation
• Completion of Part I and Part II of the In-Depth Tax Course
• 3+ years of public practice experience
• Experience working with and developing junior staff
• Prior client-facing experience
• Proficient with accounting software (Caseware/Caseview, MS Office, Taxprep, Sage 50, Quickbooks, etc.)
• Experience working in a paperless environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Works well in a collaborative, team-based environment
• Handles varied roles and responsibilities and meets deadlines
• Strong work ethic and motivation

Ability to work extended hours during busy season is required. In exchange, we offer significant flexibility for a reduced work week in slower seasons and/or extended vacations during summer months.

Manager

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Victoria-based team. This is a client-facing position that requires experience communicating financial information in a public practice setting.

Your Responsibilities

• Understand the importance of quality client service
• Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business opportunities and key risks
• Lead multiple engagements and monitor engagement timelines
• Liaise and correspond professionally with clients and colleagues
• Manage the completion of review engagements, notice to reader engagements, and tax compliance engagements by reviewing the work done by other team members
• Identify appropriate income tax planning strategies
• Develop, coach, and train team members towards professional and personal development
• Develop and enhance our client relationships by interacting directly with clients in a clear, thoughtful and professional manner
• Manage our professional risk by exercising appropriate professional judgement

Your Experience

• Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
• 5+ years of relevant work experience in public accounting
• Extensive knowledge of and experience working with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises
• Extensive knowledge in the design of non-audit assurance engagement procedures based on risk and materiality
• Solid understanding of business, management and practice development principles
• Strong computer literacy including experience working with accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Taxprep, and Sage
